Kathy Janer, Public Health Nursing Manager of the Bay County Health Department Receives Carleen K. Moore R.N. Nursing Excellence Award

BAY CITY, Mich., May 24, 2016 - Kathy Janer RN, BSN, the Public Health Nursing Manager for the Bay County Health Department (BCHD) has received the Carleen K. Moore R.N. Nursing Excellence Award from Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU) on Tuesday, May 10th, 2016. She is the first Public Health Nurse to receive the award from SVSU.

Ms. Janer was nominated by Joel Strasz, Public Health Director for the BCHD and Molly Stapish MSN RN, an nursing instructor at SVSU. Kathy has been the Public Health Nursing Services Manager since 2012. She is currently responsible for the clinical oversight of two of the three major divisions at the Health Department: Maternal Child Health Care Services and Public Health Services. In her role, Ms. Janer has provided steady leadership to a number of programs that include the Maternal Infant Health Program, Children Special Healthcare Services Program, Immunizations, Hearing and Vision, Family Planning, Communicable Disease Investigation, STD/HIV and the Childhood Lead prevention program.

In their nomination Strasz and Stapish noted “Ms. Janer has effectively coordinated SVSU nursing student rotations within the health department. She works tirelessly with staff to ensure that all aspects of public health nursing are met to the fullest potential. She is a true mentor to her subordinates and students in whom she regularly interacts with, and as such is viewed with great esteem at the Health Department and in the community at large.”

Established by SVSU's Department of Nursing, the honor recognizes the continual dedication, quality service and front-line leadership exhibited by nurses in clinical practice, education, leadership, and community service. Awards were presented in the categories of acute care, nurse educator, long-term care/rehabilitation, and nursing in the community.
