Saginaw Bay Coastal Initiative (SBCI)
     Partners for Environmental & Economic Solutions

The Saginaw Bay Coastal Initiative is a collaboration between the counties of Arenac, Bay, Huron, Iosco, Midland, Saginaw and Tuscola, and partnering with the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality and various regional and federal agencies to develop and implement a comprehensive approach to promoting environmentally sound economic development and resource restoration in the Saginaw Bay coastal area.  

SBCI Program Updates

Some of the goals of the SBCI are, but not limited to:

∞ Improving Fisheries
∞ Understanding the algae (muck) problem, including evaluating potential human health risks
∞ Protecting high quality coastal wetlands
∞ Increasing access to the Saginaw Bay
∞ Controlling Phragmites
∞ Implementing the Kawkawlin River Watershed Initiative
∞ Enhancing the Saginaw River corridor

The Bay County Board of Commissioners and staff have been promoting their campaign for Beach Wellness to beautify the Bay County State Park waterfront. They hold fundraisers thoughout the year to fund various clean-up activities and to purchase equipment.
