Spring Aerial Mosquito Treatment Taking Place Easter Sunday

Due to continued mosquito development and unfavorable weather conditions over the past week, it is necessary for Bay County Mosquito Control to conduct aerial treatment operations on Easter Sunday, April 21, in Gibson, Mount Forest, and Beaver Townships.  Residents of these townships should be aware that low-flying yellow or white aircraft may be conducting treatments over woodlots in their area between the hours of 6:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., weather permitting.

Earl’s Spray Service of Breckenridge will be conducting the operations based out of James Clements Airport in Bay City. Flooded woodlots will be treated with Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis (Bti), targeting larval stage mosquitoes hatched in the standing water. The product is a naturally-occurring soil bacterium attached to a corn cob granule. It specifically affects mosquito larvae, black flies, and fungus gnats. It has low impact to non-target organisms such as humans, pets, birds, fish, and other aquatic organisms.

Aerial treatment operations throughout the rest of Bay County will continue Monday,April 22, weather permitting. Please contact Bay County Mosquito Control to report any community events that may be occurring in Gibson, Mount Forest, or Beaver Townships on Sunday that could interfere with these treatments over woodlots.
