Field Technician (29): Major duties include field sampling of larval habitats, performing larviciding and adulticiding activities to control mosquitoes, accurate reporting of daily activities, and answering inquiries from the public. Work shift for larviciding technicians will run from 8:00 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. Work shift for the adulticiding technician (fogging for adult mosquitoes) will be from 7:45 p.m. - 1:45 a.m.
Biology Lab Technician (2): Major duties include working independently monitoring and identifying mosquito populations, assisting with mosquito-borne disease surveillance, technical reporting, and answering inquiries from the public. Biology technicians' normal work shift is the day shift 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Office Data Entry Clerk (1): Major duties include data entry, answering phones, and filing. The normal work shift is 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Applicant must possess minimum High School diploma or GED and have a valid Michigan driver's license with a good driving record. Applicant must be 18 years of age and be able to pass a physical, drug test, and a background check. Applicant must attend a mandatory training session and pass the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development's "Core" and "7F/Mosquito Control" exams.
Period of Employment:
Approximately four field technicians are hired to work the spring and summer season from late-April through September. Other seasonal employees work the summer season from mid-May through August or September.
During the summer season, there are two shifts. Salary for newly-hired or entry-level staff on the day shift is $9.50/hour and for the night shift, $10.50/hour. Returning employees' salary will be $10.00/hour (days) and $11.00/hour (nights).
