COVID Vaccine Booster Shot Information
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) updated its booster recommendations to everyone 12 years and older to receive a booster shot at least 5 months after their second Pfizer vaccination shot. Only the booster shot of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine is authorized and recommended for adolescents 12 through 17 years of age.
The Moderna vaccine booster shot is recommended for those 18 years and older and who were vaccinated at least five months after their second dose.
The Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine booster shot is also recommended for those who are 18 and older and who were vaccinated two or more months ago.
Everyone 12 years and older should get a booster shot. Adults aged 50 and older and those 12 years and older who are immunocompromised may receive a second booster shot of the Pfizer-BioTech COVID-19 vaccine. These two populations are at increased risk of infection and severe illness from COVID-19. Finally, those 18 years of age and older who received J&J's Janssen COVID-19 vaccine for their primary dose and booster may also receive a second booster shot of the Pfizer-BioTech COVID-19 vaccine.
As of 04/12/2022, only the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine is available from the Bay County Health Department.
