Persons with a disability recognized under the Americans with Disabilities Act are entitled to a reasonable accommodation. The intent of Bay County is to assure that individuals with a disability have equal and full access to all of our programs and facilities. Some of the facilities in Bay County include the Civic Arena, Community Center, Court Facility, Dog Park, Fairgrounds, Golf Course and Pinconning Park.

Physical Mobility Impairment

Requests for reasonable accommodations for physical mobility impairment may be submitted in writing or in person to the ADA Coordinator as indicated below. 

Hearing, Speech and/or Visual Impairment

The County of Bay will provide necessary and reasonable auxiliary aids and services such as signers for the hearing impaired and audio tapes of printed materials to individuals with disabilities upon 10 day's notice to the County of Bay. Individuals with disabilities requiring auxiliary aids or services should contact the ADA Coordinator.

Language Interpreter Service

Requests for language interpreters may be presented to the ADA Coordinator. The request may be made orally or in writing. Whenever possible the request should be made at least ten (10) days in advance of the date when the interpreter is needed.

Grievance Process

If you believe you have been denied a "reasonable" accommodation by Bay County and wish to dispute the denial, submit a complaint within 10 business days after the complainant becomes aware of the alleged violation.

Michigan Relay Service

Michigan Relay is a communications system that allows hearing persons and Deaf, hard of hearing, or speech-impaired persons to communicate by telephone. Hamilton Relay is the contracted service provider for Michigan Relay. Hamiton Relay works with the local exchange carriers in Michigan to provide this service. Users may reach Michigan Relay by dialing 7-1-1. 

Several relay service options are available to accommodate the needs of various users. Primarily, calls are conducted through the use of an assistive communications device such as a TTY, deaf-blind communicator or other specialized equipment. There is no additional charge to use this service. Only normal telephone charges will be applied. There are no limits to the length or number of call an individual places.

• The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities in employment, transportation, public accommodation, communications, and governmental activities. The ADA also establishes requirements for telecommunications relay services.

• The Department of Labor's Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) provides publications and other technical assistance on the basic requirements of the ADA. It does not enforce any part of the law.
