STATE LAW REQUIRES

 

Ø      That all dogs and cats in Bay County be licensed starting at the age of 6 months.

Ø      That you provide proper food, water, shelter and sanitary conditions for all pets.

Ø      Licenses must be renewed every one to three years, depending on your rabies vaccination.

Ø      Dogs and cats to vaccinated against rabies by the age of four months.

Ø      All animal bites and scratches that draw blood must be reported.

Ø      Report animal cruelty.

 

ANSWERS FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

 

Ø      Stray animals brought to the shelter without a collar are held for four  days before being set up for adoption. 
Animals with a collar are held for seven  days, as per state law.

Ø      Animals surrendered by their owner are available for immediate disposition.

Ø      Dogs, cats, and ferrets adopted from the Shelter are mandated to be sterilized per the adoption contract.

Ø      This shelter does NOT sell animals for research.

Ø      Euthanizing is done by a lethal injection that makes the animal "go to sleep."

Ø      This shelter has live traps available for public use.

Ø       This shelter accepts donations. Common items are old towels & blankets, dog & cat food, kitty litter, bleach,
newspapers, and dog & cat treats or toys.

 

IMPORTANT TIPS

 

Ø      Check your puppy's collar often; your puppy grows quickly and will need frequent adjustments.

Ø      Generic pet foods may NOT provide proper nutrition for your pet.

Ø      Puppies and kittens NEED their first vaccinations at 6 weeks of age.

Ø      Please spay and neuter your pets to reduce ov e r populat i o n and the spread of disease.

Ø      Approximately 2,900 animals are euthanized each year at this shelter.
