Bay County to Implement New GIS Web Viewer

After months of continuous meetings and collaboration, Bay County will partner with the City of Bay City and combine resources for a single, county-wide GIS Web Viewer system. The Geographic Information System (GIS) is a computerized mapping system that also contains a large database of information about the areas mapped. Examples include water well locations, FEMA flood plain boundaries, current tax parcels, as well as soils, aerial photographs, wetlands, and a variety of other information.

The software that runs Bay County's current GIS Web Viewer is no longer supported by the current vendor. This upgrade will also allow us to combine our other online GIS viewers into a single, easy-to-use application. Once the new Web Viewer is launched, Bay County and the City of Bay City will continue to improve and share data and resources. "I think this is a great opportunity for Bay County and the City of Bay City and I'm really excited to have support at both organizations to move this project forward and improve GIS services for this community," said Bay County Transportation Planning and GIS Manager, Jay Anderson. GIS systems are becoming the standard of the future, and

Bay County is advancing in development and use of this technology. The new online resource will be a valuable tool to provide better GIS services to the citizens of Bay County and Bay City as well as coordination with outside agencies like the Bay County Road Commission. Many local businesses and government agencies also rely on our web viewers.
