Bay County 911 Launches Improved Phone System

On December 3rd, 9-1-1 Central Dispatchinstalled a new 9-1-1 Intrado Viper Phone System. The new 9-1-1 Phonesystem is able to receive and process the steadily increasing call-loadfrom cell phones and other digital communication devices used  by our citizens.

Thesystem has several new features, including the ability to identify acaller's location before the 9-1-1 dispatcher answers the 9-1-1 call anda decrease of time between the time a 9-1-1 call is initialized to when9-1-1 answers the call. The new 9-1-1 phone system is designed with aneye towards the future. The system is able to accommodate the continualevolution of communications technology used by Bay County residents.

Thenew phone system is part of a digital network build-out betweenmultiple Counties, which offers increased ability to handle and recoverfrom disasters, and enable future applications such as text, video, andtelematics, which can greatly improve emergency response, meet publicexpectations and in turn, save lives.

The new 9-1-1 phonesystem also affords the opportunity for increased collaboration. Thephone system is collaboration between Bay County 9-1-1, Midland County9-1-1 and Tuscola County 9-1-1, Huron County 9-1-1, Iosco County 9-1-1and Sanilac County 9-1-1. The collaboration decreases the cost of the9-1-1 Phone system to Bay County 9-1-1 while increasing the resiliencyof Public Safety.
