Birth Records
Birth records for births occurring in Bay County are available beginning the year of 1868.  In order for the birth record to be on file in Bay County, the birth must have occurred in Bay County.

Birth certificates are not public records. They are confidential records and available only to the person or parents of the person named on that record. Additional documentation will be required of applicants stating they are an heir, legal guardian or legal representative of the person named on the record.

A current, valid driver's license or state issued ID, for identification purposes, is required for birth certificate requests.

Effective January 1, 2007, certified copies, with the raised seal, are $14.00 for the first copy. Each additional certified copy of the same record, requested at the same time is an additional $3.00.  If the date of birth is not known, please add $1.00 per year search fee.

Bay County residents, age 60 and older, who appear in person at the Bay County Clerk';s office receive a free certified copy of their birth certificate compliments of the Bay County Clerk.

In order to request a birth certificate for someone other than yourself, your child or your legal ward, written permission authorizing you to request the record must be obtained from the person on the record or the parent, legal guardian or legal representative of the person on the record.

The request shall include the name and date of birth of the person on the record, name of the person to whom the record is to be released and signature of the requestor. If the requestor is the legal guardian or legal representative, copies of those documents are required. In addition, a photocopy of the requestor';s photo identification is required.

The person designated on the request to obtain the record is required to sign the request at the county clerk';s office and provide photo identification.

Marriage License
To apply for a marriage license in Bay County, apply at the Bay County Clerk';s Office, 515 Center Avenue, Bay City, Michigan during regular hours of business, Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Men and women 18 years of age and older may contract marriage in Michigan without parents' consent.

Applicants 16 or 17 years of age must submit written and notarized consent of one parent or legal guardian, who must appear at the time of the application.

If one or both applicants is a Michigan resident they apply in the county where either applicant lives. The license is valid throughout the state of Michigan.

If both applicants are out-of-state residents, they must apply in the county where they plan to be married. The license is valid in that county only.

Information required of both applicants:

Fee per couple: $20.00 -- Bay County Residents
Fee per couple: $30.00 -- Out-of-State Residents

The marriage license becomes valid on the 3rd day following application.
The Marriage must be solemnized within 33 days of application.

Additional information or documentation may be required before this office will complete the marriage license application.

Bay County residents: For your convenience, an Affidavit for License to Marry application may be downloaded, printed and then submitted in person at the County Clerk';s office, Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

Out of State Residents: Instructions and application of Affidavit for License to Marry to be completed and returned to County Clerk office.

Marriage licenses are filed in the county of application. Your request can be processed ONLY if the marriage license was APPLIED for in Bay County, Michigan. Effective January 1, 2007, the first certified copy, with the raised seal, is $14.00. Each additional certified copy of the same record, requested at the same time is an additional $3.00. If the date of marriage is not known, please add $1.00 per year search fee.You may request marriage records in person during regular business hours or you may send a written request. Death Records
Death records for deaths occurring in Bay County are available beginning with 1867.

Death certificates are filed in the county in which the death occurred. Your request can be processed ONLY if the death was in Bay County, Michigan. Effective January 1, 2007, the first certified copy, with the raised seal, is $14.00. Each additional certified copy of the same record, requested at the same time is an additional $3.00. If the date of death is not known, please add $1.00 per year search fee.You may request death certificates in person during regular business hours or you may send a written request.  Please include the following when requesting via US Mail:
